I had a call in May this year who talked me into paying Β£65 for them to explore why they think I am paying too much council tax.I have spoken to 2 very nice ladies and they seemed genuine and I agreed for them to investigate I then asked if they could send my payment back but She said they would send me the form to sign as it was likely I would get a reassessment and refund.. Eleanor (Shaw Claims) called my 87 year old today! told her she was in the wrong council tax bracket and they can get the over payment refunded back to 1993, the catch being that she would have to pay an Β£80.0 administration fee. Key points to consider! 1. A stranger phones you up out of the blue, but dose not know your name or address. 2.You have no guarantee they will do anything for you! 3. This outfit have been hard selling products to my elderly grandmother for the past 6 months and by the looks of things they have been selling her details on to very similar unscrupulous companies. She has had a direct debit set up for cover that she has no idea what it is for, but because the sales people were slick and pretended they had spoken to her before she stupidly trusted them and now she has lost hundreds of pounds. I was so worried to see all this and called to speak to a lovely lady called Charlotte, she explained that I would get my paper work first and if I decided it isn't for me I could cancel. I work for my local district council tax department. Technically speaking what this company is doing is legal. However there is no guarantee that the banding of the property will be changed (the chances are low) and if there is no change the companies generally keep the money. Also homeowners can ask for the banding to be changed themselves free of charge.

I'm writing this because I feel it's unfair to class this company as a scam as I spoke to a lady who told me about the council tax, I haven't received my money back yet but I feel this company was helpful with everything. They left me with a number, address etc.

My 91 year old mother was called in January and must have given her bank details though she does not remember doing so. Shore Claims took Β£65 from her account despite the fact that she had not returned to them their form that would give permission to make council tax enquiries on her behalf. Hopefully the bank can recover the money.

Just look at all the green comments saying how wonderful they are. Why would anyone suddenly post on here to that effect? Obviously these green posts are made by employees of this organisation. Strange how most of the red comments state they are clearly targeting elderly people as a soft option. Shore Claims phoned and very plausibly said I could get refund on overcharged council tax. Their phone number is 03003034470. They wanted Β£65 administration charge. This is a scam. I phoned bank immediately.

I spoke to 0300 303 4570 (Shore Claims) about my council tax and unfortunately I was in the right council tax band. But at the end of the day, I didn't know it was 100% correct until they had checked it, and I now have peace of mind that I was paying the right amount since 1993. I received everything in paperwork so if the company wasn't legitimate then they wouldnt have contacted me at all. If your banding isn't lowered is doesn't mean it's a scam, it means that you are paying the right amount
